Eng.º Brito da Mana Track Festival | Tavira 2026

On 20 June 2026, Almancilense Cycling School took part in the Eng.º Brito da Mana Track Festival, held in Tavira, in a day dedicated to youth cycling, learning, competition and sharing experiences between cycling schools.

The event brought together young riders from different age groups and provided another opportunity to put into practice, in a competitive setting, the skills developed during training: technique, concentration, confidence, decision-making and team spirit.

For our young riders, it was also another important experience outside their usual training environment, in a setting where competing means much more than simply chasing a result.

“Results fade. Confidence, experience and memories remain.”

A day to learn and improve

Taking part in a festival like this gives young riders the opportunity to face new situations, new opponents and different competitive demands.

Each race brings its own challenges. Riders need to manage their effort, stay focused, adapt to the pace of competition and make decisions in just a few seconds.

But it is precisely in these moments that learning takes on a new dimension.

Training builds the foundations. Competition puts those foundations to the test.

It is through this balance between preparation and experience that young riders gain confidence and learn how to deal with increasingly demanding situations.

Taking part in events like this helps riders to:

  • gain competitive experience;
  • develop confidence;
  • consolidate technical skills;
  • learn how to deal with pressure and expectations;
  • respect opponents and the rules;
  • strengthen team spirit.

Much more than medals

Almancilense Cycling School finished the event with a very positive result.

The team returned home with:

  • 11 medals
  • 1 team trophy

The results are a source of pride, but they represent only one part of what we want young riders to take away from these experiences.

Each medal reflects effort, dedication and progress. But there are also many lessons that do not appear in the final standings.

Some young riders manage to complete a race with greater confidence. Others improve a technique, overcome a fear or learn to manage their effort more effectively.

That matters too.

In youth cycling, every achievement can be measured in different ways.

“At events like these, children do not just learn to ride better. They also learn to believe in themselves more.”

The value of competition in development

Competition can play an important role in the development of young athletes when it is seen as part of a learning process.

Competing allows riders to test their abilities, understand what is already well established and identify what still needs to be improved.

But it also teaches them how to deal with emotions.

There is excitement, nervousness, joy, frustration and the desire to try again.

Learning how to manage all of this is part of sporting development.

For some young riders, competing means aiming for better results. For others, it may simply mean being able to finish a race that once seemed difficult.

Both journeys have value.

The importance of track cycling

Events like this also help raise the profile of track cycling and create opportunities for young riders to discover different disciplines within the sport.

Experiencing different competitive formats allows them to develop new skills and understand that cycling is about much more than riding on the road.

Track cycling requires attention, control, spatial awareness and the ability to adapt.

All of this helps to develop more complete cyclists.

At the same time, these festivals also play an important role in attracting and developing young athletes, creating opportunities for more children and young people to discover the sport and find their own path within cycling.

Representing the school beyond Almancil

Taking part in an event in Tavira is also an opportunity to represent the work carried out throughout the year at our school.

Each young rider takes with them what they learn in training: technique, respect, discipline, teamwork and responsibility.

Representing Almancilense Cycling School is not just about wearing the team colours.

It also means showing, both in and out of competition, the values we aim to pass on in every training session.

Every race is also a way of taking Almancil with us.

“Every finish line is just another starting point for continued progress.”

Coaches, families and volunteers are part of the result

None of these experiences happen because of the athletes alone.

Behind every participation is the work of the coaches, the support of families, the organisation of travel and the contribution of volunteers and partners.

Many small pieces come together to make it possible for young riders to take part in events like these.

Family support is especially important. Being there, encouraging and supporting young riders helps create a positive environment where they can compete without losing the joy of cycling.

Youth cycling is built in exactly this way: with athletes, coaches, families and the community all riding in the same direction.

Keep learning, race after race

The Eng.º Brito da Mana Track Festival was another step in the journey of our young athletes.

A day with positive results, but above all with new experiences, learning and shared moments.

This is the path we want to keep building: creating opportunities to compete, learn, improve and grow through cycling.

Because every race leaves something behind.

A lesson.

A challenge overcome.

A memory.

And one more reason to keep riding.

Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, families and volunteers who were part of this journey.

We keep moving forward together, helping to develop athletes and people for the future.
